Your Eco-Friendly Wedding Photographer

I know that more and more of us are becoming more conscious about our impact on the environment. Lots of wedding couples are asking businesses about their policies on the environment.

Since becoming a mum five years ago, climate change has very much been at the forefront of many decisions we have made in our home. For example, we eat much less meat, we buy organic produce as much as possible, we recycle as much as we can, use public transport where possible. I know there’s more we could be doing and we keep working at it.

Over the last year or so I’ve been thinking about ways I can bring this line of thinking to my wedding photography. I’m a small one person team but there are definitely ways I can do my bit!

What am I doing to be an eco-friendly wedding photographer?

Here’s what I’m doing this year to try to manage my wedding photography business in an ethical and sustainable way to make it as green as possible and be an eco-friendly wedding photographer.

  • I will plant and dedicate an oak tree in the National Forest in the name of every couple that books me this year
  • I will strive to work at local wedding venues so my travel is minimal
  • I will offset any travel to wedding venues further afield than 30 minutes
  • I will strive to use public transport where possible to get to a wedding venues
  • I will share lifts with my second photographer if possible
  • I will work from home the rest of the time with no commuting
  • I will use solar panels at home to power my business needs as much as possible
  • I will use digital advertising, marketing and sales methods instead of printing to paper
  • I will buy used and second-hand camera gear as much as possible
  • I will use rechargeable batteries in my gear
  • I will sell on or recycle my old camera gear appropriately
  • I will use UK based printers and album makers to avoid overseas shipping
  • I will seek out other wedding suppliers with environmental credentials and promote them through my business

I know there is a lot more I could do and I will continue to work on this in the future. If you want to have a chat with me about how I could make my business more green, or how I could approach your wedding in an eco-conscious way then please do get in touch here.
