ENGAGEMENT PHOTOSHOOTS IN HERTFORDSHIRE
Couple Photoshoots That Feel Like You
Hi, I’m Rachael Martin, a photographer based in Watford, Hertfordshire, working across Herts, Bucks and North London. I specialise in relaxed, natural photography for couples — particularly engagement photoshoot sessions for people who want beautiful images without anything feeling awkward, staged or forced.
If you’re newly engaged, or simply looking for a couple photoshoot that doesn’t involve stiff poses or cheesy prompts, you’re in the right place. Most of the couples I work with tell me straight away that they’re “awkward in front of the camera”. They don’t know what to do with their hands, they hate being watched, and they’re worried it’ll all feel a bit cringe. That’s completely normal — and it’s exactly why my approach is so relaxed.
I’ve been working as a photographer for over six years, and every couple photo session I shoot is informal and unposed, with gentle guidance rather than instructions. There’s no pressure to perform and no expectation to act a certain way — just time to walk, chat, laugh, and be yourselves while I capture it naturally.
A couple engagement shoot with me often feels more like an alternative date night than a photoshoot. It’s calm, low-key and surprisingly enjoyable, even for couples who started out feeling nervous. You don’t need experience, confidence, or a “photogenic” personality. You just need to show up — I’ll take care of the rest and make sure nothing feels uncomfortable or awkward.
I’m a friendly, down-to-earth smiling face behind the camera, and my job is to help you relax and trust the process. I focus on creating photos that feel genuine and timeless — the kind you recognise yourselves in, rather than something that feels overly styled or artificial.

The Couple Photoshoot Experience
From the first message to the final images, I aim to make your engagement photoshoot feel simple, relaxed and genuinely enjoyable — especially if you’re not used to being in front of the camera.
BEFORE THE SHOOT
Getting started is straightforward. You can get in touch via my contact page to book a standalone engagement photoshoot, or — if you’re already planning your wedding — you can book my Page Turner Package, which includes an engagement shoot as part of your wedding photography coverage.
Once your session is booked, I’ll guide you through the practical details so you know exactly what to expect. We’ll choose a location that means something to you, whether that’s where you live, where you first met, or somewhere you love spending time together. Many couples also choose a setting that’s different from their wedding venue, giving them a separate set of images that feel more everyday and personal. I’m always happy to help you think through locations and timing so everything feels easy and unforced.
DURING THE SHOOT
s around one hour and is designed to feel relaxed and informal. There’s no pressure to pose, perform, or know what to do — I’ll gently guide you where needed, but most of the session is about walking, chatting, and being yourselves.
I work in a natural, unposed way, keeping things comfortable and low-key throughout. This approach works particularly well for couples who describe themselves as awkward in front of the camera, as it allows you to settle in quickly and forget you’re being photographed. The focus is on creating a calm experience that results in photos that feel genuine and true to you.
AFTER THE SHOOT
After your couple photo session, I carefully edit your images in true-to-life colours, keeping everything natural and consistent with my style. Within four weeks, you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view and download your final photographs.
All edited images from your couple photoshoot are included in the package price, so there’s no need to choose favourites or worry about missing moments. You’ll also have the option to order prints or albums afterwards if you’d like something tangible to keep or display, but there’s no obligation — digital files are always included.
If you’d like to see how an engagement photoshoot with me works in practice, feel free to continue browsing the page. And if you’re ready to chat about dates or have a few questions, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
