Chorleywood, Hertfordshire – Natural, relaxed photography for real couples

If you’re after a wedding that’s about friends, family, and having a lovely time in a beautiful space then a Chenies Manor wedding might be for you. Chenies Manor in Chorleywood is a historic manor house set in gorgeous gardens with plenty of space for guests to mingle, laugh, and enjoy themselves. It’s got character, charm, and variety — perfect for couples who want their day to feel natural, not staged.

Ceremony and Reception Spaces for a Chenies Manor Wedding

Ceremony Spaces

  • The Birdcage Pergola: Outdoors, surrounded by greenery — great for a sun‑lit ceremony and beautiful photos. Perfect if you want a garden feel without over‑decorating.
  • Garden Room: This indoor option is light, bright, and opens straight onto the lawns. Guests can move easily from ceremony to drinks.
  • Long Room: Cosy and historic, this room works well for smaller ceremonies. Beams, fireplaces, and natural textures make it easy to get relaxed, warm photos.
  • St Michael’s Church: A short walk from the manor — traditional, charming, and right next door to Chenies Manor so guests just flow from one space to the next.

Reception Spaces

Chenies Manor’s layout keeps your day flowing naturally:

  • Drinks and mingling on the front lawns or in the garden areas.
  • The lovely Garden Room with a bar that open onto gardens, so guests can wander freely between – plus this doubles as your dancefloor at the end of the night.
  • The Marquee adjacent to the Garden Room for wedding breakfasts.
  • Multiple nooks and corners make for lovely candid moments — kids running around, grandparents chilling, friends laughing — all perfect for my natural photography style!

A Real Chenies Manor Wedding – Alice & Chiko

Alice and Chiko’s beautiful October day is a perfect example of how much fun you can have at Chenies.

a relaxed and informal couple portrait of a bride and groom in the evening sunshine at Chenies Manor
  • Morning prep: Alice got ready in the Bridal Suite upstrais in the Manor, with its wonderful four poster bed. Chiko got ready in the Long Room with groomsmen, and there was plenty of time for some great photos of both the bridesmaids and groomsmen in the morning.
  • Ceremony: Alice and Chiko were married at St Michael’s Church right next to Chenies Manor. At the end of the service, they went straight out into a confetti tunnel of guests.
  • Reception: Guests then went through to the gardens, which were in full bloom even in October (mathichng Alice’s hot pink colour scheme perfectly!). Whilst guests were mingling on the lawns, we captured the formal family photos.
  • Couple portraits: The possibilities are endless at Chenies Manor. Alice and Chiko took 20 minutes away from their guests for a wonder around the colourful gardens and the birdcage.
  • Wedding Breakfast: Guests moved into the marquee for the wedding breakfast, speeches and a beautiful ballet performance.
  • Golden hour portraits: We got lucky with some sunshine and used the lanes at the back of Chenies Manor for an lagternative seat of images to their portraits from earlier. These were some of my favourite images of the day1
  • Firepit and marshmallows: Later on when dusk fell, the fire pits were lit and guests were able to sit outside with just the right mix of cosy and fun.

What worked brilliantly: the Manor’s flexibility, the gorgeous light, and spaces that just let the day flow.

“We cannot express enough how pleased we are with all of the photos… Your photography style and true‑tone colours are exactly what we wanted… it’s so lovely reliving the day and seeing everyone so happy and having such a great time.” — Alice & Chiko

Photography Tips for Chenies Manor Weddings

  • Golden hour: Definitely schedule in time for this – there are many spaces at Chenies Manor where you can catch the beautiful light and its not to be missed!
  • Morning prep: The Bridal Suite and Long Room are perfect for natural, detailed shots but always ask you MUA to seat you in front of the lovely big windows.
  • Rain plan: Whilst planning for an outdoor wedding at the Birdcage might be your dream, make sure you have a wet weather plan – luckily Chenies’ Garden Room is just as lovely an option.
  • Candid moments: Ensure to plan for a 2 hour gap between your ceremony and your wedding breakfast – this give me lots of time to capture lovely candid photos of your guests on the lawns and garden paths.
