Islington Town Hall Micro Wedding: Fun and Confetti with Katie & Will

Not every wedding needs a hundred guests, a marching band, or a choreographed first dance. Sometimes, all you need is your closest family, a good sense of humour, andΒ enough confetti to take out an entire street. Katie and Will’s November micro wedding atΒ Islington Town Hall in LondonΒ was a masterclass in small wedding fun.

Why Islington Town Hall Is Perfect for Micro Weddings (and Confetti Mayhem)

Perched on Upper Street, Islington Town Hall has all the elegance of a classic London venue with the cool vibes of Islington on its doorstep. It offers several rooms for your ceremony, with the grand Council Chamber being the largest, and the beautiful marble corridors are perfect for couple shots afterwards. The Town Hall steps and outdoor areas provide a great backdrop for confetti exits and formal family portraits, making it a favourite for London micro wedding photography. Do take a look at their virtual tour on this page as it’s well worth viewing all the rooms!

Micro Wedding Photography at Islington Town Hall: What I Capture in 120 Minutes

As anΒ Islington Town Hall micro wedding photographer, I make it my mission to capture all the memorable moments with a 2 hour package β€” from the big I dos to the smaller, unplanned ones. For Katie and Will, that included:

  • Pre-wedding nerves: Katie and Will had booked a holding room at the Town Hall, which meant a nice relaxed start where I could capture guests arriving and sneak in a few couple portraits ahead of the ceremony. If you don’t book a holding room, do check out the The Vineyard pub over the road as this is a great place for guests to wait ahead of your ceremony (the town hall won’t let you arrive more than 15 minutes before otherwise).
  • Couple portraits: Inside the marble halls and on the staircases of Islington Town Hall. We got some stunning ones and some fun ones too, and doing them before the wedding ceremony meant we didn’t feel so rushed.
  • Ceremony: A beautiful, fun and emotional ceremony run by Islington’s wonderful and experienced registrars. So meaningful and heartfelt. Katie and Will opted for all the available options – which meant three beautiful readings by people close to them and reading of their own vows to each other.
  • Family group photos: From parents to cousins, everyone lined up beautifully on the steps inside the town hall. As it was dark, this was the better place for them, but the steps outside the town hall are an equally lovely spot in daylight.
  • Confetti exit: Everyone was behaving so well, then the confetti happened! I have honestly never seen so much confetti and it definitely went places it shouldn’t!
  • A bouquet toss: Off the steps of Islington into the waiting guests below
  • Plenty of candid moments throughout: Handshakes during the register, mid-ceremony tears, confetti in mouths and those tiny gestures that make a micro wedding feel personal and ridiculously fun.

Katie and Will’s day proves thatΒ micro weddings are where the magic (and the comedy) happens. No massive guest list, no pressure, just laughter, love, and a big confetti storm.

Islington Town Hall Micro Wedding Photography FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions I get as anΒ Islington Town Hall micro wedding photographer.

How long do you need to photograph a micro wedding at Islington Town Hall?

Most Islington Town Hall micro weddings are fully covered in 2 hours. This is usually enough time for guest arrivals, the ceremony in the Council Chamber, family group photos, couple portraits inside the Town Hall, and a confetti exit on the steps outside. If you want to extend your package to cover a pub reception afterwards, my 4 hour package might be perfect for you.

Where are the best photo locations inside Islington Town Hall?

Some of the best photo spots at Islington Town Hall include the marble corridors, staircases, and nearby windows with awesome natural light. These indoor locations are ideal for couple portraits, and work well in both summer and winter, so even if it’s dark or raining, you’ve got some great photos in the bag!

Can you photograph confetti photos at Islington Town Hall?

Yes. Confetti photos atΒ Islington Town HallΒ work brilliantly on the steps outside (the staff even encourage it!). This can happen even after dark if you are planning a winter wedding. I use just a touch of flash to capture sharp, fun, high-energy confetti shots.

Do you recommend doing couple photos before the ceremony at Islington Town Hall?

If you are able to book a waiting room alongside your ceremony, I highly recommend this. Doing couple portraits before the ceremony atΒ Islington Town HallΒ allows for a more relaxed timeline and means you can spend more time with your guests afterwards. It’s especially helpful forΒ short-coverage and ceremony-only wedding photography. But don’t worry if you can’t – we can fit it all in post-wedding if needed!

What if we don’t have a holding room before our ceremony?

If you don’t book a holding room atΒ Islington Town Hall, guests can meet at the pub (The Vineyard) directly opposite the venue before the ceremony. The Town Hall usually allows couples to arrive aroundΒ 15 minutes before the ceremony, so it’s helpful to plan a nearby meeting spot and the Vineyard is very used to pre- and post-wedding celebrations!

How many guests are allowed at a micro wedding at Islington Town Hall?

Micro weddings at Islington Town Hall are very flexible – Islington Town Hall offers various ceremony rooms with guest capacities from just 2 (Statutory Room, Angel Suite, Canonbury Suite) up to 85 for larger ceremonies in the Council Chamber (especially on weekends), with other popular options like the Richmond Suite (60 guests) and Room 99 (20 guests). Guest numbers include everyone except the couple, registrars, and one photographer, and depend on the specific room and day of the week.

Are your photography packages suitable for London micro weddings outside Islington?

Yes! My London micro wedding photography packages are also available across London and surrounding areas for small weddings, registry office ceremonies, and intimate celebrations.

When will we receive our micro-wedding photos?

For micro wedding photography at Islington Town Hall, a healthy collection of highlight images are delivered within one week, with the full online gallery available within eight weeks (but often sooner!)
