What do you get when you mix the grandeur of St Albans Cathedral with the rustic charm of TewinBury Farm? Mary and David’s wedding, of course! I had so much fun capturing it all for them on a beautiful spring day. Mary and David’s St Albans Cathedral wedding at TewinBury Farm was a perfect blend of grandeur, rustic charm, and laughter from morning prep to late-night pizza.
St Albans Cathedral Morning Prep: Beer & Bridal Bliss
The day kicked off with Mary getting ready at Torrington Hall, just down the road from the Cathedral, with her bridesmaids and family joining her later on. I then went to join David and his best men having a cheeky pint at the White Hart—because nothing says “wedding morning calm” like a beer in hand. By 1pm, it was time to meet make their way to the cathedral. David walked the short walk from the pub, and Mary made her entrance a bit later in the wedding car.
Rachael really helped me relax as I was feeling quite nervous, before heading over to the pub where the groom was having a quick drink—having photos of both sides before the ceremony was a very special touch. – Mary & David
Ceremony: A Lady Chapel Love Story
Mary made her entrance through the Pilgrim Door near the Lady Chapel where the ceremony was held. I loved photographing this service, the Lady Chapel is such a stunning place to photograph. After the service, Mary and David led a procession with their guests following through the whole cathedral – passers by stopped to look and it was such a unique and special moment of the day. Mary and David walked out to confetti outside the main cathedral entrance, and then we paused for some beautiful portraits in front of the cathedral before heading to their next stop – the party!
TewinBury Farm: Drinks, Magic & Ice Cream
Arriving at TewinBury Farm, guests were greeted with welcome drinks, a talented duo singer, an ice cream van, and even a magician to kick off the festivities. The mix of live music, sweet treats, and a sprinkle of fun set the tone for an unforgettable day!
There were many moments Rachael caught that we didn’t see—guests enjoying the day, entertainment, venue setup—and we now have so many beautiful memories to look back on. – Mary & David
The Grand Entrance & Dinner
Time for some grub! Unforgettable dhol drummers signalled the start of dinner and guests walked into the barn to their amazing sound. They also played whilst Mary and David made their grand entrance. Speeches and toasts by David were heartfelt but brief—after all, there was dancing to be done!
Capturing the Magic
Later in the evening, with the sun casting a warm glow over TewinBury Farm, Mary and David slipped away from the meal for a quiet moment. We wandered over to the llamas, and I managed to capture some of my favourite shots of the day — just them being themselves. Playful, relaxed, and completely natural, these photos really show the joy and connection they share.
Couple photos during golden hour were perfect—it’s easy to forget Rachael is there as she makes you feel so comfortable whilst having fun. – Mary & David
Evening Fun: Cake, Dancing & Pizza
By 8:15pm, the cake was cut and the first dance had everyone on the dance floor. A live band, followed by a DJ, kept the dance floor buzzing late into the night. And because no celebration is complete without comfort food, pizza arrived to keep energy levels high.
